Professional Certification through the AGO: Why it Matters, and How You can Make this Program Work for You

Award-winning organist Dean Billmeyer is University Organist and Professor of Music at the University of Minnesota. In this capacity, he has taught courses in Counterpoint, Thoroughbass, and Keyboard Skills, as well as Organ and Harpsichord. A Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, the AGO has twice awarded him the S. Lewis Elmer Award for the highest scores nationally on the Guild Certification Examinations. He served for seven years on the Guild’s national Committee on Professional Certification and is a member of the Board of Examiners, routinely grading recorded tests for the Service Playing Certificate and Colleague Examinations.

He has served as the organist and harpsichordist for Minnesota Orchestra since 2000, and regularly appears with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He is the Organist-in-Residence at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in St. Paul.
